Post Exposure Follow Up

In the event that an employee is exposed to blood or other potentially infectious materials:

  1. The employee will attend to any wound in an appropriate fashion in order to stop any bleeding or other likely means of transmission.

  2. The employee will use the Company’s sanitary precautions procedure delineated above in the Infection Control and Universal Precautions guidelines to prevent infections in the home procedure to clean any spills or other areas that present risk of additional transmission.

  3. When possible, employee will immediately contact the main office and relay all necessary information to an appropriate supervisor or manager (such as Director of Operations) and receive authorization to seek necessary medical assistance from the Company’s clinic or other appropriate facility.  When immediate contact is not possible, such as in medical emergencies, the employee/employee relative or advocate will contact an appropriate supervisor immediately following necessary treatment has been sought.

  4. The Company will make HBV and HIV testing available to employees.

  5. The Company will keep detailed records outlining employees’ vaccination histories, exposures, and follow-up blood testing.  All such records will be kept confidential.

Employees will be provided with all necessary personal protective equipment required to reduce additional risk of exposure created by any such occupational injury (such as bandages).
