Death of a Client
Clients that reside within facilities (e.g., assisted living facility)
In the event of the death of a client in a facility, you must follow the plan that is outlined and posted in the client’s residence within that facility. Once you have notified the appropriate individuals per that facility’s plan, you should then contact your Company Manager.
Client that is under the care of hospice
In the event of death of a client under the care of hospice, either in their private residence or within a facility, you must follow the call protocol that is within the client’s plan of care as dictated by the managing hospice provider. Once you have notified the appropriate individuals per that facility’s plan, you should then contact your Company Manager.
Clients that reside within a private residence
In the event of the death of a client located within a private residence, you must first contact 911 and then the Company office should be notified. The Company office will notify the emergency contact person.
In all settings and circumstances, your prompt actions, notifications and cooperation regarding the death of a client are required so that the Company may complete and timely file an Incident Report. Failing to promptly notify the Company about a client’s death or failing to cooperate in good faith with the completion of the Incident Report will result in disciplinary action up to and including discharge.
All employees will receive a report as to the client's medical history and plan of care or service plan from the office before the first visit with each client. You are to follow the care plan or service plan as directed. Any alterations to the care plan or service plan must be made by the supervising RN.
