Do Not Resuscitate Orders (DNR)

Do Not Resuscitate status is by written physician order only.  All DNR orders will be obtained by the nursing designee and placed in the client's medical record by an administrator.  Any client who is DNR status will have the DNR order placed in a visible and prominent location within the home.  If you were told in a report that the client is DNR status, but you do not actually see the order in the home, call the supervisor for clarification.  In the absence of a DNR order, all clients will be considered candidates for C.P.R. in the event of cardiac or respiratory arrest.  If you are C.P.R. certified, you may start C.P.R.  If you are not C.P.R. certified, call 911, or the appropriate facility/company administrator and wait for instruction.  FOR ALL MEDICAL EMERGENCIES, ALWAYS CALL 911 FIRST!
